പാലക്കാട് പുതിയൊരു ടോൾ ബൂത്ത് വരുന്നതിൽ പ്രതിഷേധം ശക്തമാകുന്നു.
പാലക്കാട്–കോഴിക്കോട് ദേശീയപാത 966-ലെ മൈലം പുള്ളിയിലാണ് പുതിയ ടോൾ നിർമ്മാണ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ പുരോഗമിക്കുന്നത്.
200 കോടിയിലേറെ രൂപ ചെലവിട്ട് നാട്ടുകൽ–താണാവ് റോഡ് വികസന പ്രവർത്തികൾ പൂർത്തീകരിച്ചതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായിട്ടാണ് ടോൾ ഏർപ്പെടുത്താൻ നീക്കം നടക്കുന്നത്. നേരത്തെ ദേശീയപാത 966-ൽ മുണ്ടൂർ ഐആർടിസിക്ക് സമീപം ടോൾ ബൂത്ത് നിർമ്മാണത്തിന് സ്ഥലം ഏറ്റെടുക്കുകയും അതിനനുസരിച്ച് റോഡ് നിർമ്മാണം പൂർത്തീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ഈ ഗേറ്റിന് തൊട്ടടുത്തുള്ള ചെർ പ്ലശ്ശേരി പാതയിൽ പോകുന്നവരും ടോൾ കൊടുക്കേണ്ടി വരും എന്ന് വന്നതോടെ ഇവിടുത്തെ പദ്ധതി നിർത്തിവയ്ക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് 3 - 4 വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് ശേഷമാണ് മൈലം പുള്ളിയിൽ ടോൾ നിർമ്മാണം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്.
ശാസ്ത്രീയമായ ഒരു റോഡ് നിർമ്മാണവും ഈ മേഖലയിൽ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടില്ല എന്നാണ് ടോൾ വിരുദ്ധരുടെ അഭിപ്രായം. പലയിടത്തും സ്ഥലം പോലും ഏറ്റെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല. റോഡിൻറെ അശാസ്ത്രീയത കാരണം അപകടങ്ങൾ പ്രദേശത്ത് വ്യാപകമാണ്. ഇതൊന്നും പരിഗണിക്കാതെയാണ് സാധാരണക്കാരെ കൊള്ളയടിക്കാൻ ടോൾ പിരിക്കാൻ നീക്കം നടക്കുന്നത് എന്നാണ് ആരോപണം. പ്രതിഷേധത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി
മൈലംപുള്ളിയിലെ ടോള് ബൂത്ത് നിര്മ്മാണ സ്ഥലത്തെ ദേശീയപാത യൂത്ത് ലീഗ് പ്രവർത്തകർ ഉപരോധിച്ചു. ഒരു കാരണവശാലും ടോൾ ബൂത്ത് അനുവദിക്കില്ല എന്നും വേണ്ടിവന്നാൽ പൊളിച്ചുമാറ്റും എന്നും സമരക്കാർ പറഞ്ഞു. വിവിധ സംഘടനകളും ടോളിനെതിരെ പ്രതിഷേധത്തിന് ഒരുങ്ങുകയാണ്.
Palakkad: Protests are intensifying against the proposed construction of a new toll booth at Mylampully on National Highway 966, which connects Palakkad and Kozhikode. Construction work on the toll plaza is currently progressing at the site.
The move to introduce toll collection comes as part of the development of the Nattukal–Thanaavu road, which was completed at a cost of over Rs 200 crore.
Earlier, land had been acquired for the construction of a toll booth near the Mundur IRTC on NH 966, and road construction was completed accordingly. However, the project was reportedly put on hold after concerns arose that motorists travelling on the Cherpulassery road, located close to the toll gate, would also be required to pay toll.
After a gap of three to four years, construction of the toll booth has now resumed at Mylampully.
Anti-toll campaigners allege that no scientific or comprehensive road development has been carried out in the region. They claim that land acquisition has not been completed at several locations and that accidents are widespread due to the unscientific design of the road.
The protesters have accused the authorities of moving ahead with toll collection without addressing these issues, alleging that the move would place an additional financial burden on ordinary people.
As part of the protest, National Highway Youth League workers staged a blockade at the toll booth construction site in Mylampully. The protesters declared that they would not allow the toll booth under any circumstances and warned that they would dismantle it if necessary.
Various other organisations are also preparing to launch protests against the proposed toll booth.
